How to Disable KNOX Security Service on Samsung Galaxy Devices

How to Disable KNOX Security Service on Samsung Galaxy Devices

Samsung-Knox-Security
The are various instances of exploits bringing out the security vulnerabilities of Samsung’s flagship Galaxy devices. To arouse the trust of business class customers, Samsung also launched an ad campaign. However, it was with the launch of the Galaxy S4 that the company introduced a dedicated security service trademarked as Samsung KNOX.
Previously, the service was only available for people in enterprise and in government institutions. Later during IFA event in Berlin, Samsung  showcased some new devices like the Note 3, Note 10.1 2014 Edition, Galaxy Gear and also revealed the commercial availability of a its Knox mobile security system that helps better protect device data against unauthorized use.

What is Samsung KNOX?

In this way, if you have Knox installed on your device which you use as a personal and as a workplace phone both, Knox lets you store enterprise applications (corporate email, contacts, calendar, etc.) securely using an Exchange ActiveSync Server. The service is capable of separating personal and work data and thus it makes it possible for both types of data to coexist on a Knox-enabled device. You just have to press an icon to switch from personal to business mode.

Why Disable Samsung KNOX?
There’s no doubt that Samsung Knox service is really a good security solution for those who got a financial and business reason to protect their data, but there are still many others who might not like to have it on their device. If you are not a fan of the kind of security Knox provides and love to root your device and install custom ROMs on it without caring about the security warnings, we have come with some tips to disable Samsung Knox security shield on your device. Knox might also be responsible for FC (force close) error with some of your root perm apps, and so this is another sound reason to disable it.
If you have KNOX on your Galaxy device and you have rooted it, you’ll see a verification message that pops up every time SuperSU is called for action by some apps on your device. The message runs like this:
“SuperSU tried to access system in your device without authorization. This action was blocked”.
You can get rid of this annoying thing easily by disabling Knox service and its agent apps.

Disabling KNOX Using Terminal Emulator

  1. This method requires root access on your device.
  2. Download and install the Terminal Emulator app on your phone or tablet.
  3. Launch the app on your device and grant it root permission when prompted.
  4. When you see the command box, type the following command:
    su pm disable com.sec.knox.seandroid
  5. Doing this will disable Samsung Knox on your device

Alternative Method To Disable KNOX

Download and install an app that is capable of freezing system apps on Android devices.Titanium Backup is a good option. Open TB when it is installed and freeze the following apps:
  • com.sec.enterprise.knox.attestation
  • com.sec.knox.eventsmanager
  • KLMS Agent
  • KNOX
  • Knox Notification Manager
  • KNOX Store

Disabling KNOX Notifications

If you just want to disable Knox notifications on your Samsung Galaxy device, there is a good app available at the Google Play Store that requires root access and makes the job pretty easier:

How to Remove Bloatware / System Apps on Samsung Galaxy Note 3

Galaxy-Note-3-Bloats
We all love apps on our phones and tablets. They lets us add new functionality to our device and make our mobile life easier. However, there are some apps that make us irritated because the needlessly keep our device’s app drawer stuffed. These useless apps come with our device out of the box because they are part of the package from the OEM and feed on the battery juice and RAM.
Such apps are popularly called bloats and most of users feel a strong desire to terminate them from our devices. It is very to uninstall a third-party app but when it comes to removing a system app, thing become a little tougher, at least for those who do not have a rooted device. The Galaxy Note 3 comes preloaded with dozens of bloats.

Most of these apps are either nominally useful or useless at all. They occupy the internal storage and because many of them work as background processes, they also have negative impact on the battery life and RAM. Thus they make our device slower in performance and less battery efficient. In the past, we have published various tutorials on cleaning bloat s or system apps for a range of Android devices, and today we are back again with another guide for Samsung’s latest phablet, Galaxy the Note 3.

Warning

Please be careful while deciding which apps are really useless for you before removing. Also, we strongly recommend that you create a backup of all APK files before removing. Sometimes people delete an app in a fit of hurry and repent when some or other function on the phone stops working. You should also note down the Permissions value for system apps because without fixing file permissions, the apps would not work even if you copy the APK to thesystem folder.
Read our Detailed Guide on Fixing Permission on Android Devices search in the search box for it

Removing Bloat Apps Using Note 3 Cleaner Script:

There are various ways in which you can delete system apps found on your Samsung Galaxy Note 3:
  • Flashing a script via a custom recovery like CWM or TWRP
  • Using a root file browser app
  • Using an app that is capable of deleting system apps
XDA member CoOoL_BoY has made a script that can easily clean about 100 bloat apps from your Note 3. The Note 3 Cleaner Script, as it is called, can also be edited and thus you can add or remove apps according to your preference. Here is how you can edit the script:
  1. Download the Note 3 Cleaner package: Galaxy Note 3 Cleaner v0.4.zip
  2. Download Notepad++ if you do not have it on your computer: Download
  3. You must have a Zip extracter like WinZip or PowerArchiver on your computer.
  4. Now double click the zip file and navigate to META-INF\com\google\android\
  5. Right click on updater-script and select Edit.
  6. You can now add or remove app names. Make sure to type the name of the Apk file you want to remove.
  7. Finally, save your changes and copy Samsung GALAXY Note 3 Cleaner v0.4 CoOoL_BoY.zipto your device.
After modifying/editing the app names, you can now flash it via recovery. Here are the steps:
  1. Copy the Samsung GALAXY Note 3 Cleaner v0.4 CoOoL_BoY.zip to your Note 3.
  2. Boot your device into recovery mode by holding the Volume Up+Home+Power buttons for about 4-6 seconds.
  3. If you use TWRP, go to “Install” option and select the Zip file you copied in Step 1, OR if you have CWM, go to “install zip from sdcard” and select the file.
  4. Confirm the installation and then reboot your device.
  5. If the recovery mode prompts you “Root access possibly lost. Fix?”, make sure  to select“No”.
bloats-removed-on-Note-3
When your Samsung Galaxy Note 3 boots up, you’ll have a cleaner app drawer with all selected bloat apps removed from it. In case you notice any error or discover that you have accidently deleted an app that you should have removed, download the following zip that contains all app deleted by the Note 3 Cleaner script and install it back the same way as you did above:

How to Install Galaxy Note Android 4.1.2 Firmware

Installing an Official firmware on a Samsung Galaxy device is very easy and if you have ever done it, you can do it easily within a few minutes. If you belong to the countries mentioned above, the installation via Odin should take around three minutes. But if it is not so, it might take about 5 minutes. We’ll recommend a data factory reset via Stock Recovery after the firmware is installed, otherwise you might confront minor issues like connectivity, lagginess, etc. If you phone is rooted, it will be a good idea to backup all your apps using Titanium Backup or Koush’s Carbon app.

Before proceeding to install the Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean Official Firmware, do these things:

  • Charge your GalaxyNote to at least 60% of battery level.
  • Installing the new firmware will not wipe any data stored on your Galaxy Note. We still recommend  that you backup you contacts, messages, call-log, settings, apps, etc.
  • Turn on the USB Debugging mode on your phone: Settings> Developer Options> USB Debugging
  • Having made the preparations instructed above, follow the following steps:
  • Download the appropriate firmware file from above and extract the zip on your desktop.
  • Download and install the Samsung USB Drivers on your computer and restart PC when it is installed. If you have already installed Kies on your computer, you can skip this step.
  • Download  Odin3_v3.04.zip and extract it on you desktop.
  • Put your Galaxy Note  in Download Mode: turn off the phone, press and hold Volume Down+Home buttons and then long press the Power key for a few seconds till the screen turns up and you see a screen asking you to press the Volume Up key to continue. Press it.

Update Galaxy Note N7000 to Official Android 4.1.2
