Verizon Galaxy S4 mini confirmed with branded home button

Samsung confirmed the US launch of the Galaxy S4 mini earlier today. There wasn’t anything specific given in terms of launch dates and prices at the time, however Samsung did say the handset would begin arriving in November. The carriers included Verizon Wireless, Sprint, AT&T and US Cellular and given the lack of specifics from Samsung, we are left looking towards the carriers for more information.

Well, it looks like Verizon Wireless is first out with some details. Though, they are still on the basic side. Big Red has recently taken to Twitter with word the Galaxy S4 mini is “coming soon.” Similar to what we have seen from Verizon in the past, they offered the tweet along with a coming soon style teaser page on the website. While there was no date or price just yet, there was confirmation of another kind.
It seems Verizon has returned to branding the home button. Just like what we saw with the Note 2 (and were happy to see stay off the Note 3), the Galaxy S4 mini home button will be sorting a Verizon logo. There will also be the expected Samsung logo towards the top of the front. Flipping over to the back and there is more branding. The handset will have the Galaxy S4 mini branding towards the bottom with another Verizon and 4G LTE logo towards the top.
Otherwise, while we still need the more important details, we have seen the specs. The Galaxy S4 mini will have Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean along with specs to include a 4.3-inch qHD display, dual-core 1.5GHz processor, 1.5GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage and an 8 megapixel rear-facing camera. There will also be a microSD card slot with support for 64GB cards and a 1900 mAh battery.
Aside from the handset itself, Samsung also confirmed the Galaxy S4 mini would be getting support for the Galaxy Gear “soon after launch.” The issue with that promise of soon, we aren’t sure what they means in terms of the Verizon timeline.

Verizon Galaxy S4 Android 4.3 Update is Build VRUEMJ7 – Includes Gear Support and Activates LTE Band 4

Samsung confirmed to us this morning that Android 4.3 updates for the Galaxy S4, Galaxy Note 2, and Galaxy S3 would begin rolling out to U.S. variants as early as today. Since we received a screenshot of the potential timeline for those updates to happen from each carrier, with one showing Verizon’s GS4 variant receiving the update today, we have been on the lookout for clues. We think we found it on one of Samsung’s support pages for the VZW Galaxy S4. The update may be rolling out today after all.

For a moment, the support page on Samsung’s site was updated, showing that the phone would receive Android 4.3 along with Galaxy Gear support beginning today, October 28. It has since been pulled and the Verizon support page for the Galaxy S4 only shows the most recent update to build VRUDMI1. But thanks to the magic of computer screenshots, we have the changelog for you below.

Update: It looks like Samsung went live with the changelog.

Screen Shot 2013-10-28 at 9.33.55 AM

The update will arrive OTA as expected, bumping the phone to Android 4.3. We’ll also see Galaxy Gear support and support for Verizon’s AWS band 4 LTE. Samsung KNOX support is in there as well, along with a bump to version 2.5 of Group Play.

We’ll keep an eye out for anything else official, but it does indeed appear as if Verizon is leading the charge with the Android 4.3 update here in the States. Who would have thought?

Verizon Galaxy S4 mini confirmed to carry carrier logo on home button

Back when we first got an unofficial glimpse at Verizon’s Galaxy S4 mini, we were disappointed to find that the carrier had decided to put its logo on the home button, like it did with the Galaxy Note II last year (and thankfully didn’t with the Note 3). However, we were still hoping against hope that this wouldn’t come to pass, but unfortunately, it’s really happening – Verizon has tweeted confirmation of the S4 mini’s launch on their network after Samsung’s announcement yesterday, and its ugly logo is painfully visible on the front.
Even the back has Verizon branding, so if you do buy the S4′s lower spec’d sibling from US’ largest carrier, then you’re going to have a constant reminder of who it is you’re paying every month. The device will launch in November on major carriers, and you can sign up at the source link for more details from Verizon in the future.

Nokia Lumia 929 myth or real?

Of course the 929 wasn't announced. It is a VZW exclusive that will be announced later. VZW doesn't usually participate in these big announcement events. They may do their own launch event, though more likely they will release info on them less than two weeks before they are released.

It's the same for the 525, which I've heard is the VZW version of the 520/521. They will drop at around the same time, probably around Thanksgiving. The 929 is the 1520 with a smaller screen and more storage. Verizon will be offering 32GB and may be offering Verizon cloud storage of some kind that will not count against your data plan if accessed.

I think the 822 may be EOLed. Also not sure if the 928 will stay around after they clear out inventory. It may be just the 525 and 929, though I'm not clear on the 822 being ended as VZW wants a low end, a midrange, and high end. The 822 has a flash whereas the 525 doesn't, as far as I know.

Leak - Verizon Nokia Lumia 929 hands on video and new photo

Nokia World has come and gone but that doesn’t mean the Finnish company doesn’t have more devices up their sleeves. One of those is the Lumia 929, a custom phone for Verizon that is due to land any time between now and Q1. Not much is known about the Lumia 929 except that it is probably a 5-inch 1080P device running a Snapdragon 800 quad-core processor and a 20 MP rear PureView camera.
Now, a leaker in the Windows Phone Central forums who goes by the name of ‘Falorin’ has posted a new photo and even a hands on vide with the mystery device.
The posted video is just 45 seconds in length, though we do get to see the About screen and get a brief look at the device. From the appearance alone, it looks very similar to the Lumia 928, also found on Verizon. The device can best be described as square in the front with a rounded back. The device in the video is all matte black and there is nothing particularly stunning about the device, though we bet the hardware is drool worthy.
No word on an exact date for release though Falorin says that it should be out “around Thanksgiving time”.
The device obviously sports Verizon’s 4G LTE, meaning it has a micro SIM card for GSM. The leaker has also noted that the device is unlocked, like most of Verizon’s devices, and that putting an AT&T or T-Mobile SIM into the device allowed it to work on those networks.
What does everyone think of the Lumia 929? Hit or miss?

Verizon Galaxy S4 Android 4.3 update could be rolling out today

Samsung announced today that the Android 4.3 update for the Galaxy S III, Note II and the S4 would begin rolling out in the US in the coming weeks, and it looks like the Verizon variant of the Galaxy S4 could begin receiving it from today itself. The update’s details were listed on Samsung’s and Verizon’s website, showing the build number VRUEMJ7 and a release date of October 28th, though Verizon’s support website still points to a previous update as being the latest one.
According to the changelog, the update will add Galaxy Gear support, enable Band 4 LTE, add an updated version of Group Play (from the Note 3), and Samsung KNOX support. Verizon isn’t exactly the most timely carrier when it comes to updates, so it will surely be a huge surprise if they push out the update before other carriers, though it’s best not to get too hopeful until more details emerge on the rollout schedule.

Android 4.3 update for Verizon Galaxy S4 rolling out

Well, in a rather surprising turn of events, Verizon has beaten other carriers and become the first to start rolling out the Android 4.3 update for the Galaxy S4, as was expected when the update’s details were made availablejust a few hours back on Samsung’s website. In addition toinherent features of Android 4.3 (though there’s no OpenGL 3.0, as the S4′s GPU doesn’t support it on the hardware level), the update will add support for the Galaxy Gear, enable Band 4 LTE, update the Group Play app, improved Easy Mode, KNOX support, and a few other tweaks.
The update is available over-the-air right now, but in case you haven’t received a notification yet, be sure to hit the Check now button in the Settings » About phone » Software update menu.

Verizon Galaxy S4 Update to Android 4.3 With Galaxy Gear Support is Live

Verizon’s Galaxy S4 is now receiving Android 4.3 in a brand new update that went live moments ago. The update was approved this morning, bringing along Galaxy Gear Support, band 4 LTE, and some other tweaks along with the most current version of Android (for the time being) to Samsung’s 2013 flagship. We’re as surprised as anyone to see this update arrive first on a Verizon phone before any other carrier, but you won’t find us complaining.

To download the update head into Settings>More>About phone>Software update.

BlackBerry Z30 Available in November Exclusively from Verizon Wireless

The latest offering from BlackBerry.

Big screens on smartphones mean less squinting when reading emails or editing documents, easier typing on a larger keyboard, and more sharing videos with friends sitting next to you. The newest smartphone from BlackBerry will make that all possible.

Coming in November, the BlackBerry Z30 smartphone with 5-inch HD display will be available online at www.verizonwireless.com for $199.99 with new two-year activation. Verizon Edge is also available for eligible customers who want to upgrade for $22.91 per month for 24 months.

Gamers will appreciate the HD screen for mobile gaming on the go, but the BlackBerry Z30 also supports Miracast to wirelessly connect to a compatible HDTV and mirror exactly what’s on the smartphone to the HDTV’s larger display. Business professionals, for example, can walk into a boardroom with only their smartphone and show their presentation on an HDTV to colleagues or supervisors.

Besides the big HD screen, BlackBerry Z30 includes the BlackBerry Hub, a single place on the smartphone where users can access all their conversations. BBMs, Twitter @ replies, emails, text messages, Facebook event invites and more can be found in one place without launching each app individually. And within BlackBerry Hub is the Priority Hub, which learns what conversations are important to the user, helping them stay even more organized and focused.

Watching a video or editing a document requires attention until suddenly a message arrives and the tough dilemma arises – do you continue focusing on watching or editing, or do you leave the app to check and reply to the message? BBM on the BlackBerry Z30 eliminates that dilemma with BBM Now. It gives users a preview of any BBM as it arrives and lets them either dismiss or reply without leaving the app they’re currently using. BBM is now also available on Android and iOS so BlackBerry fans can BBM with friends on those devices.

The BlackBerry Z30 also comes with a 2880mAh battery that can last an entire day (25 hours with mixed usage) and includes support for wireless charging, so users can easily charge it by setting it on a wireless charger – no wires or plugging in necessary.

BlackBerry Z30 will hit the Verizon shelves in November

Galaxy S4 Mini for Verizon and Samsung SM-W2014 (aka Snapdragon 800 Clamshell) Get FCC Certified

You may have not realized this yet, but aside from avoiding a debt crisis and subsequent potential global economic fallout, the end of the 16-day United States federal government shutdown has also opened the floodgates for a series of rumors and speculations concerning unreleased gadgets.
Verizon-galaxy-s4-mini
Not as vital for the financial state of the world, yet probably equally as important (nah, I’m just kidding) for oodles of nerds around the globe.
That’s because the FCC is back at work and two of the first devices to get the agency’s stamp of approval on the heels of the shutdown’s end are Samsung’s SCH-I435 and W-2014. Do the two model numbers fail to ring any bells?
Then let’s call them by their “street” names: the Galaxy S4 mini for Verizon and purported first Android flip phone with Snapdragon 800 power. Oh, now I have your attention? Great, although I’m sad to say FCC’s internal docs reveal very little about the gizmos other than, well, they’re coming.
SCH-I435
The SCH-I435, pictured already a number of times, including by notorious leaker @Evleaks with a very, let’s call it funky home button, supports LTE on bands 4 and 13, plus CDMA, GSM and UMTS on 850/1900 frequencies.
All signs thus point to the S4 mini being prepped for Big Red, the largest and most popular wireless service provider stateside, though you must remember a number of photos starring the device with AT&T and Sprint logos have surfaced not long ago.
As far as the SM-W2014 is concerned, the documentation is even lighter on specifics (at least to my untrained eye), albeit there is confirmation of GSM and CDMA support, plus Bluetooth and Wi-Fi a/b/g/n/ac connectivity.
SM-W2014
As you may recall, after doing a little digging a week or so back, we’ve found some proof (mostly inconclusive and indirect however) that Samsung is working on a Hennessy or Galaxy Golden doppelganger with fairly modest 3.67 inches dual screens, a retro (read fugly) clamshell look but otherwise mind-blowing, top-notch specs: 2.3 GHz quad-core CPU, 2 GB RAM, 13 MP rear-facing camera.
That particular story is in no way confirmed as of now, mind you, so do handle it with prudency, care and a teensy-weensy pinch of salt. Not a lot, as it can drive your blood pressure through the roof.
