Huawei Demonstrated Its Leading Virtual Transport Service Prototype

Huawei, a leading global information and communications technology (ICT) solutions provider, showcased key SoftCOM achievements and solutions that can be applied to all fields of carrier networks at the recently held SDN & OpenFlow world congress, in Frankfurt, Germany. In the transport field, Huawei demonstrated its transport SDN prototype running the virtual transport service platform and showed how Network on Demand (NoD) services are provided on the prototype. The prototype is another breakthrough for Huawei after the transport SDN controller prototype launched last year.

In the information explosion era, optical transport networks have become the foundation of bearer networks. On the one hand, carriers are eager to deploy value-added services efficiently and flexibly to yield better returns from transport networks. On the other hand, carriers expect higher network resource utilization to reduce the transport cost per bit. To satisfy these needs, Huawei launched the SDN virtual transport service solution based on the Path Computation Element (PCE) architecture.

The virtual transport service platform can provide users with multiple modeled virtual topologies through programmable interfaces to meet on-demand virtual network service (such as NoD service) user requirements in real time. With network programmable and virtual technologies, the platform helps carriers provide customized services and deploy value-added services efficiently and flexibly. In addition, the built-in intelligent Transport Path Engine (TPE) algorithm ensures dynamic network resource optimization and helps carriers increase network throughput and reliability.

SoftCOM is a future-oriented end-to-end ICT network architecture based on concepts such as cloud computing, SDN, NFV, and network openness. It will help carriers tackle the challenges posed by ICT integration and seize new market opportunities.
