The first smartphone with a 2560x1440 display is from a company you've never heard of

The Xplay3S (yes, really) will be the first smartphone in the world to include a display with a resolution of 2560x1440. There’s no word on the size of the screen, but LG demoed a 5.5-inch prototype earlier this year with the same resolution. Assuming that’s the panel Vivo is going for, then it be the highest pixel density on a phone yet at 534 PPI.

What benefit is that even going to bring, though? Phones with 5-inch 1080p displays are already bordering on overkill. At this point, the focus should really be on power consumption, colour gamut, and contrast - especially given that LG’s display prototype was an IPS LCD.

Other specs for Vivo’s phone include a faster Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 SoC and LTE support, but we’ll probably never see this thing outside of China.
