Huawei, a leading global information and communications technology (ICT) solutions provider, unveils the world's first G.fast over Coax multi-user access prototype capable of providing an ultrafast broadband access rate of 1 Gbit/s over coaxial cables. With this prototype, Huawei realizes G.fast ultrafast broadband via multi-medium and multi-user access.
The G.fast over Coax multi-user access technology is compatible with cable TV signals on existing coaxial networks, which serve as a crucial access medium for home networks. By flexibly allocating unoccupied frequency bands (1 GHz maximally) for G.fast access, the technology provides a 1 Gbit/s downstream shared bandwidth to serve up to 32 users over coaxial cables. With this technology, coaxial network users are able to experience superfast broadband speeds.
As a cutting-edge access technology, G.fast is mainly applied to short-distance twisted pairs to deliver Gigabit access. Huawei has been conducting the G.fast over Copper trial with a leading European telecom operator, providing 1G bit/s access via existing copper lines. In addition, Huawei incorporates the G.fast technology into its Fiber to the Door (FTTD) solution, which takes fiber to the door and then delivers ultrafast broadband access via existing access media (such as copper lines or coaxial cables). Therefore, this solution is the best answer to FTTH problems.
"Huawei continuously invests in technological innovations that address the needs of operators and solve their problems in network rollouts," said You Yiyong, president of Huawei access network product line. "The G.fast over Coax multi-user access prototype is a perfect combination of our latest G.fast technology and coaxial network innovations. Huawei will promote G.fast standardization and commercialization to accelerate the build-out of ultrafast broadband networks."
G.fast technology has become increasingly popular since the release of the world's first G.fast prototype by Huawei in December 2011. As an ardent advocate of G.fast standards, Huawei has contributed a majority of core G.fast technologies in its papers submitted to the ITU-T's G.fast standards body. Huawei aims to take G.fast to a new level.
